现在except和except for已经不太区分了.用于句中时可互换.只是except不用于句首.besides的含义可以用另一个英语词组解释,就是not only...but also如:We all went there,besides Tom.就相当于Not only we but also Tom went there.unless=if not表"除非"或"如果不...的话"是用来引导条件状语从句的.如:I will not go there unless they invite me=If they don't invite me I won't go there.

except for是有点美中不足的意思，如the colour of the house is good except for the floor;except 是除什么外，表示一种责备，如Everyone is here,except Tom.
