当然不矛盾拉。方位动词的参照是相对地球来说的。如果是一般的名词还是有特指和泛指的区别的。第一句the east ,the west是指The highway补全了就是：The highway extends about two hunded kilometeres from the east side to the west side.第二句The earth turns from west to east.明显是相对语地球来说的。所以可以不加。
