Vicar 在不同的时期和不同的教会的意思不完全一样，意思比较明确，要么是英国国教体制里主管教区教堂（chapel）的牧师，要么是罗马天主教廷体制里的副主教, 但如果大写 VICAR OF CHRIST 就是指教宗本人，上帝在人间的代表。minister 在天主教和新教里的意思不同，罗马天主教里是指有些教会中的高级传教士，英国新教里是指有自己教区的牧师（也就是 pastor）。
