lane这个字即是里,在广东很多街道都叫做里.而在香港亦有很多街道都称为里,英文都是译作lane,不知我有否错误,里这个字应该是由外文引入成为中文用字的.所以外国人应该会明白此意思.而上海人所称为的弄堂,其实就是一条小街巷,如果你认为lane这个字不够准确,你可以用 street 这字,缩写是 st.

个人认为也可以使用Alley，因为lane有的时候也指公路上的车道，而alley意思比较单一。
