because是一个从属连词.引导原因状语从句,直接回答why的问句.而for是一个并列连词,它引导的句子虽然可以翻译成"因为",但是它只是对前面的句子做进一步的补充说明,没有直接的因果关系.请比较下面的句子:Why are you late again? Because I missed the bus.Sorry, I'm late today, for (you know) I have to send my child to the school first.

because更正式。后面可以加比较长的原因。for一般后面不会跟很长的句子。e.g.your question couldn't be answered because you didn't give the context for translation.your question couldn't be answered for an obvious reason.
